If you discover water on your property, the following steps can help mitigate damage:

  1. Immediate Water Removal: As soon as it's safe, start removing standing water. Quick water removal is essential in mitigating the extent of water damage, especially in areas like a water-soaked basement.

  2. Enhance Air Circulation: Open windows and use fans if available to get air moving. Proper ventilation is crucial for the drying process and reducing the humidity levels in your home, which can help prevent further water damage.

  3. Water Extraction Equipment: If you have a sump pump or a portable pump, use it to extract water efficiently from flooded areas such as basements.

  4. Move Valuables to a Dry Area: Shift furniture, rugs, electronics, and other valuables to a dry area to prevent additional damage.

  5. Inspect for Leaks and Blockages: While SERVPRO is on the way, check for the source of water intrusion.

  6. Document the Damage: Take photos or videos of the water damage for insurance purposes.
